The Transport Ministry will roll out telematics for commercial vehicles in phases from 2026 to 2028 to enhance road safety through smart, data-driven technology. Speaking after launching the Telematics Initiative for Commercial Vehicles on Monday (June 29), Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the system can prevent a vehicle from starting if the driver is detected to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He said the subscription-based model would minimise costs for operators, requiring only equipment installation and a monthly fee of RM60 to RM300 per vehicle, adding that five companies have been selected for the pilot programme after meeting the minimum proof-of-concept (POC) requirements.
