A disturbing case of alleged domestic abuse has emerged from Sangrur city in Punjab, where a woman and her two-month-old baby were rescued after reportedly being locked inside their home by her husband. The incident took place in the Bagguana settlement area. According to police, the woman managed to attract attention by shouting for help through a window after enduring prolonged confinement and abuse. Hearing her cries, local residents gathered outside the house and informed the police. A team from City-1 Police Station rushed to the spot and, with the assistance of local residents, broke open the lock and safely rescued the woman and her infant child. According to the victim, her husband, identified as Johnny, had subjected her to years of abuse and had recently confined her and the baby inside the house. She alleged that she was frequently assaulted and was not provided adequate food. The woman further claimed that her husband is addicted to drugs and would often beat her for money. She also alleged that both she and her newborn child were deprived of proper food and care. Police said the accused has a criminal history and is allegedly involved in cases of theft and robbery. According to local residents, he had been released from jail around 10 days before the incident. Ward councillor Harpreet Singh Sekhon said he contacted the police immediately after learning about the situation from residents. He added that disputes within the family had reportedly been ongoing for the past four years and that several attempts had been made to resolve the matter, but the accused's behaviour had not changed. Station House Officer Sukhdev Singh confirmed that the woman and child were rescued safely. He said the victim informed police that she no longer wished to live with her husband and wanted strict legal action against him. Following the rescue, police sent the woman to her parents' home for her safety and welfare. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of law, and he has been arrested.
