Sagrada Familia's Tower of Jesus to be inaugurated and blessed by Pope Leo XIV The recently completed Tower of Jesus Christ at Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia will be inaugurated and blessed by Pope Leo XIV during his visit to the city, the basilica’s general director said on May 21, 2026. A mass with the pontiff is scheduled for June 10, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the death of the basilica’s architect, Antoni Gaudi. The ceremony will mark the central event of the centenary commemorations, general director Xavier Martinez told a press conference. The Tower of Christ is the highest point of the basilica at 172.5 meters (565.9 feet) and officially making it the tallest building in Barcelona. Gaudi worked on the basilica from 1883 until he died in 1926.
