Petrol, diesel prices cut before diwali, govt reduces excise duty

On the eve of Diwali, the Government of India announced a reduction in the excise duty levied on petrol and diesel. The excise duty has been reduced by Rs 5 on petrol and Rs 10 on diesel, effective from Thursday. Fuel prices were sharply hiked on October 20 by state-run oil marketing companies.
