Courtrallanathar Temple is a fascinating shrine dedicated to Lord Courtrallanathar (Kutralanathar)and Kuzhalvoimozhi Amman, located in Courtralam township, just next to Courtralam (Kutralam) waterfall. 2. Not many people know it, but this used to be a Vaishnava shrine, which transformed into a Shaiva temple. 3. As per Hindu legend, Sage Agasthya was refused entry in this earlier Vishnu temple’s sanctum for being a Shaiva follower. 4. Later he entered the temple as a Vaishnavite devotee and mystically changed the deity of god Perumal (Vishnu) into Shiva-linga. 5. The fingerprints of Sage Agasthya are still visible on the Linga, as he used enormous efforts and pressed the head of Lord Vishnu until it became a Linga. 6. It is said that it caused a headache to Lord Shiva during this process, so as a remedy he applied an oil mixed with 42 herbs. 7. Every morning during the main Pujan, Thaila-oil is applied on the head as a tradition. 8.
