The Egyptian Ministry of antiquities announces the discovery of a burial shaft from the 26th dynasty (664-525 BC), south of the Unas pyramid. More than 35 mummies, canonic jars, gilded masks and artifacts have been found. The embalming workshop and adjoining 30-metre (98ft) burial shaft, dating from the Saite-Persian period (664-404 BC), also give clues about their ancient inhabitants’ former status.
