<p>Mount Agung, on the Indonesian tourist island of Bali, erupted on Wednesday, June 13, emitting a plume of volcanic ash that reached 6,500 feet (2,000 metres) above the volcano.</p><p>Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the National Disaster Management Authority, confirmed the eruption. “Mount Agung, Bali, erupted on June 13, 2018, at 11:05 am,” he tweeted, adding that the column of volcanic ash reached 2,000 metres.</p><p>He assured the public that Bali remained safe.</p><p>Mount Agung erupted</a> five times in late November 2017, forcing tens of thousands of people to evacuate and disrupting air travel.
