Israel sent more troops to the West Bank Thursday and froze 83,000 entry permits for Palestinians after a Palestinian gunman killed four people yesterday at a Tel Aviv open market. The Israeli army entered the village of Yatta, near Hebron, and declared the area a closed military zone following the rampage by two residents, who were cousins from the village. Search teams raided West Bank workshops and other sites suspected as possible gun-making locations, police said. The permits had been issued as a goodwill gesture to allow greater freedom of movement for Palestinians over the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which started Monday.
