MOLNDAL, SWEDEN —A 22-year-old Swedish asylum worker was stabbed to death at a refugee center on Monday Jan. 25, 2016. Her killer was allegedly someone she was trying to help, a 15-year-old migrant boy. Alexandra Mezher was employed by a center for unaccompanied migrant children in Molndal on the west Swedish coast. On Monday morning, Mezher was going about her duties when she was fatally stabbed. Mezher, whose family is originally from Lebanon, worked at the center for just a few months before her death. Details remain sketchy and no motive for the stabbing was given. The suspect, described only as a 15-year-old male asylum-seeker who arrived in Sweden without known adult guardians, was held down by others at the center until police arrived. The teenage suspect will be charged with murder. Mezher was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to her wounds a short time later. Her cousin described her as “an angel” who just “wanted to do good” and “be ‘good.” Sweden is struggling to cope with refugee-related crime.
