Among other issues, the strikers demand that 15,000 long-standing temporary employees receive workplace benefits. The government claims it is not financially possible to attend to the strikers' demands and have a balanced budget. The opposition says the budget favors business and mining interests and not the needs of the population. Without a solution, workers say their struggle will further radicalize.
