But he has safe sparred with a few of the other students. This is the first time I have made more contact with him. I took great care not to kick him in the shin too much because he was hurting there already and I didn’t want to have the lesson end so quickly. But I noticed that without that setup, it makes it very difficult to find the openings. He weighs about 205 lbs and is about 5’10”. His size makes the sparring more difficult. When I hit him, he keeps on moving towards me, he can take hits and will not stop. His bones are also pretty hard, so clashing knees and shins with him can hurt. He definitely has size to his advantage. And for a bigger person, his hand speed and reaction is pretty fast. Although he does not move around much, he is like a big truck coming towards you and is waiting to clobber you with his rear hook. I am very aware of this, as because of his lack of experience and control of technique, I am prepared to take a hard hit if I make a mistake in my judgment of distance. What gets me the most upset is that I got scratched up really bad towards the end on my chest. I’ve never had such a huge scratch before, a big chunk of my skin came off and I was bleeding. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I got back to the school and looked at the mirror. This scratch is very noticeable because it is in the center of my chest. I also got scratched up very bad in my arms, but that is not a big deal to me, the scratch to my chest is the worse. From this experience I will from now on be wearing a tank top when I spar. He will have to learn how to make a fist to the body when he attacks but I don’t really have confidence in him having the body control to do that so I may just stop sparring with him all together because I really don’t want my body all scratched up leaving me life long scars.
