Ecuador moves against anti-women violence

Ecuador marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, by taking action to prevent and penalize such behavior. Authorities launched a major campaign to address the problem of domestic violence and feminicides, with six cooperation agreements signed Monday between different government agencies and divisions. The problem in Ecuador is serious, with 60% of women suffering domestic violence and 25% being raped. The campaign will extend to December 11 and will also focus on educating the population and explaining what government services are available to battered women.
