ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery charged through Hyde Park on Thursday, with horses pulling historic cannons for a 41-gun salute marking the Queen's accession to the throne, 62 years ago. Next year, in September, Queen Elizabeth will surpass her great-great grandmother, the formidable Queen Victoria and will become Britain's longest serving monarch. On February 6, 1952 King George VI died while the young then-Princess Elizabeth was on holiday in Kenya with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh, unaware of the huge duty that had just fallen upon her shoulders. The 88-year old Queen is scaling back some of her royal duties as her eldest son and heir to the throne, Prince Charles, increasingly represents his mother. However the Queen has a busy few months ahead. In April she will visit Rome to meet the Pope and she will be in Normandy in June to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
