A 15-year-old girl, identified by French media only as Sarah , was snorkeling in Saint Paul Bay in La Reunion when she was attacked by a shark. The area she was swimming is unsupervised and bathing there is forbidden due to high shark numbers. A friend who was with Sarah at the time was unharmed and swam back for help, but rescuers unfortunately were unable to save Sarah. The event took place only a few meters from shore.
